I think the basic idea of using the conventions of portraiture is good, it fairly immediately puts us into the framework of how identity constructed —be it the identity of and individual or a community. I think Liz is right, however, to question wether the ideas listed so far get at some of the issues you post about. There is a identity that the developers is selling regarding the relationship between the build and the “natural” environment, i guess you are attemping to get at something more real than “connect to nature” but I am not sure how you are making that connection. connecting people to people or people to place?

Famously in the 80s Nancy Burston did a composite portrait of world leaders based on  the percent of nuclear weapons each country had. so the compositing had a very specific reason and meaning.
