Teams, Updates, Comments, and Etc.
Hi all, sorry for the delay, much work had to be done in the past couple of days. First off:
No worries about group switching Claire. In fact, I am thinking of jumping ship too, haha. I think we lost a bit of headway trying to create a new project last Friday, and the pieces didn’t really fit together right. Tad kind of hit it on the head with the Jedermann project… I think that was the feel and rough idea of where we were thinking of going. It is still an interesting project, but seems a bit difficult to accomplish. I am, however, still interested at looking at the changing character and / or activity of the place… whatever form that will take.
To the Urban Legend group:
I think that you have a really captivating idea. The concept is something I think that has a lot of power on its own, and a lot of embedded meaning to us. This site especially, because everything has quite literally been covered up, and what existed had an “off-limits” kind of feel, so it seems plausible. I think this will be a hard one to pull off, but very cool. The video could have vastly different meanings, and I was wondering, what mood are you trying to set? Either way could be successful, but lends itself to different interpretations — “is this serious?” or “thats clever” kind of attitudes. I think the map, leaking it, and exhibition ideas are all really quite good. Maybe you could do some sort of “evidence” along with it hidden along your map trail… I don’t know, but you have my support!
To the Connecting With Nature group:
I have to agree with Charlotte — I am loving the anthropomorphic plants. Theres a sort of cynicism and irony that I have to admit I love when you say the plants are watching TV. Theres also some aspect of time involved in this that I think is really interesting. I could imagine that this exhibition would be a really big thing, and very hyped up.. while at the same time its just plants growing. And perpetual TV. I wonder if its possible to have a series of these anthropomorphic, nearly static plants doing things around town. Fill-in citizens of SoWa.
To the Sculpture group:
I am again intrigued by the timeline this project proposes. The idea of a changing sculpture and the use of natural decay as part of it is both a very strong statement and tool. One thing I would add, however, is that because of the act of decay and the meanings it shows clearly, I would take the idea and run with it, and instead of many smaller projects, make one very large and strong statement. I like the idea of the salmon swimming upstream for many reasons. It is very site specific, good imagery, has a good character and movement to it. Also, it has the potential to be 2 or 3 casts that could be replicated, making it a little more feasible. I have an image in my head of a very large and dynamic sculpture right at the waterfront edge that people walk by all the time. It would change into just intangible forms and then fade away, but would be something people would talk about for a long time.
